In the middle half of 2024, I wrote several posts about travel and moving around. At first it was due to a few trips I took, but, unexpectedly, I found myself relocating cross-country, so I had much more to say.
- These pieces from February were about a trip to Manhattan, then a few hours away by bus: I related my visit to MoMA to computer graphics, and wrote a short travelogue in pursuit of The Warriors.
- In April I wrote about the pleasure of exploring new cities, still thinking that I would be doing that when traveling, or possibly around where I lived then. I had more to say about modern art after that trip, less positive than the focus in February.
- In early May I found out about the employment change that would eventually lead to me moving. I was still writing as if I would stay, specifically about the physical and human geography seen from my apartment.
- In June and July I went through the process and made the decision that brought me here. I expressed hope that I would explore my soon to be former region more, I shared some thoughts about exploring what is now my home remotely, in preparation for the move, and I extolled walking, as a way of saying farewell to where I left, and of learning my new place.
- August's updates became more and more delayed, as I made the move and scrambled to get my bearings and find a long-term living situation that would comport with my work. I posted about my temporary housing, my experience driving, as well as my struggle with the navigation software I was using.
- September's updates continued to be delayed. I had found an apartment, then mulled over how getting my bearings worked, and shared my first experiences with this new area's public transit.
